It has been refurbished to the highest standard, sand-blasted and powder-coated in pillar box red with gold lettering. This has been varnished several times in order to protect the gold lettering. This post box is therefore a rarity due both to its scarcity of production and the quality of the piece itself. Items such as this are seen very infrequently indeed. Size is 20″ x 13″ x 8 (50 x 33 x 20 cm). The post box comes with a new lock and four keys. There is also a trivet to raise the post off the inside of the base. There are holes on the side for bar and bracket fixings. Limited produced many post boxes until 1931 before ceasing trading and reviving as Derby Castings Limited, Derby from 1931-33, before this company itself succumbed in 1933. There are few specifically Derby Castings Limited post boxes still in existence (cast mark on the bottom of the item). The item is extremely heavy and one strong, or better, two people are recommended for uplift. Collection is from Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

The post box bears the Royal Cypher of King Edward VII, who reigned for 10 years from 22 January 1901 to 6 May 1910. As his reign was so short this is a rare example to find. The lovely original detailing and character of this box cannot be replicated. To the front is the words’POST OFFICE’ and’ER VII’ and then at the bottom it bears the makers name’W. James Maude and Co made the Letter Boxes for the London Company W. ALLEN who had a contract for supplying the Post Office with Wall Boxes and Lampboxes over a long period of time. Dimensions: The approximate MAXIMUM dimension are: 10 3/4 inches (27 cm) wide x 14 1/2 inches (36.5 cm) deep x 28 3/8 inches (72 cm) high. Condition: The post box is in good original condition just marks commensurate with age and use. The post box is in it’s original paint so the paint is flaking as would be expected and as such would benefit from being painted. The letter box has a lock but there is no key and is locked shut, hence a key is required. Queen Elizabeth 11 1990s “Lamp” Post Box Front. Put back to the condition it was in when first installed, and no more to do to it. Made by “Machan Scotland” in the mid 1990s, and which can be seen cast onto the bottom front of the door. Also, production of this style of Post Box Front ceased in 2015, after being first introduced in 1947, and has now been replaced by the modern updated all Pressed Sheet Steel version, which lack any character, unlike the Original. It comes with a full set of Period Metal Collection Day Tabs, and a White Collection Time plate. The Tab Holder/Pocket is fitted to the inside of the door, which opens and shuts freely, and the Post Box Front door is re-painted inside in the correct light grey and. The correct “Post Office” Red on the outside. The Lock is a Genuine brass “Chubb” Original with 2 keys and a stamped metal key fob. This Post Box Front is 24″ High x 10″ wide x 2 Deep aprox. And weighs around 12 kilo’s. It can be built into a House wall, Brick Pillar or similar if required, using the 4 Lugs that are on either side of this item to attach it securely. Please note, this item is definitely “Not” a Replica or a Fake that is so often seen on this site, which have been listed incorrectly by some sellers/Dealers as Original and Genuine. They also state the incorrect year of manufacture, but are “Chinese” copies which differ in many ways, one being the size and the flimsy lock, and they do not stand the test of time, including the British weather.
